My New Look on Life

Yes, you heard right. I have a new look on life, I just got LASIK treatment for my eyes and I am pleasantly pleased. I tried to stay off the computer because I didn't want to strain my eyes, you know, not because I was avoiding posting, although that could have a little bit to do with it :P

So, I have been reading all the comments that were left and ofcourse if you read the comments from when I first started the blog till now, nothing really has changed and ofcourse we have not really changed, well, except for the problem that we are having in Lebanon now. I just want to say I really hope my girl Nancy Ajram is safe :)

I would watch the news in the US, but since the reporting here is too funny for words I prefer to talk to my cousin in Beirut for the latest. In the news here, "The Middle East Crisis" flashes on the screen periodically but I still do not get ANY information that will help me think about or formulate any real opinions on the situation. From what it sounds like Hizbollah is winning... The score seems to be 3 Hizbollah men killed, 30 some Israeli's, and a whooping 350 Lebonese, BRAVO BRAVO!

The Israeli's are freeing the Middle East of this terrorist organization called Hizbollah but ofcourse the Lebonese infrastructure down and out and ordinary people like you and me paying the price.

I am glad that something is being done with Hizbollah but this is not the way to do it and I don't think that this attack has anything to do with the 2 Israeli soldiers that were taken by Hizbollah. Israel with its superior intelligence and special forces should be able to do a better job of pinpointing and killing Hizbollah members.

I mean, Hizbollah has racked havoc all over the middle east, including countries like Turkey where innocent people were found dead by the dozens slaughtered and some even buried alive. Hizbollah is not good but the reaction that Israel has shown has done nothing to stop these freaks but instead ruined one of the BEST and DEVELOPED countries in the Middle East.

And I come to my last point. Lebanon famous for its delicious food, beautiful women (and men), great Arabic music, fashion, educated public, and becoming one of the top tourist destination in the Middle East may have started to become to powerful in the sense that they were getting the West to notice them for all the things that Arab Haters didn't want. A modern arabic public.

That would be an oxymoron and everything that Arab Haters could not use to make the ignorant west realize that us Arabs ARE more like the West than many would like to believe. By Western I mean, relatable. Because as much as I love USA and Europe I really love the traditions, culture and modesty of the Middle Eastern people.

I hate american news as well. You can't really learn anything from them. I do believe though that Hizbullah is suffering a tremendous blow to their infrastructure, it is just they don't report their casualties. Why would they? The killings of innocent are always horrible. I have relatives in Haifa and I am worried for them.

This war has made me sick to my stomach!! Lebanon destroyed again just when they were coming back to normal.......senseless! Also, it hurts me that Haifa and Nazareth have been attacked, like you Alex I have alot of family there.

This war did not need to happen, you are right Lucy, Israel could have done things differently with all their intelligence. They have the capabilities to have taken out hezbolla.

You are right on with the last statment about the middle eastern people too.

P.S. Looks like my daughter will be cancelling her trip to Israel...This is also going to hurt BOTH countries economically, big time!!

Oh yeah that is no wonder, but at the same time you have to think how could lebanon allow hizbullah to take 23 seats in the parliament. It is just unthinkable to me. I think that hizbullah needs to be destroyed but I dont think it should be done in a way that 3 million civilian people are held hostage.

In terms or intelligence, I think that in the last 6 years Israeli intelligence was pretty arrogant and now we are all paying that price. I am sure that israel assumed that hizbullah won't be able to get that many rockets and weapons and develop their capabilities. This event is a huge itelligence failure!!!!!

Would someone please explain this to me- if we as normal people can go on Google maps, zoom in on a satellite and see our own houses and streets in the US, how did Israel not know, maybe by some sort of sattellite surveillence, that Hizbollah was stockpiling missiles???

anonymous,

I can answer to all of your questions :). I actually worked in Department of Homeland Security last summer... so anyway. With all my hate to hizbullah, they are not stupid. It is very very easy to smuggle weapons especially into a country that pretty much has no border with Syria. The weapons could me smuggled in ambulances, in trucks carrying food, whatever, you name it. Most of Hizbullah weapons are primitive: russian katyoshas, and grad rocket those are WW II era weapons. Very easy to smuggle. Oh gee as it comes to it I am starting to think russian mafia might be involved in this too. So anyway there are a lot of ways to smuggle those in. As I said Mossad was probably arrogand and did not think Hizbullah was a threat. But now it is over for hibullah, the whole international community is against them, they have no chance now......

I wish i can have an 8 hour sleep at one go! I have been working a lot for the past 12 months, and have been unable to have a good sleep! Also enough with the war on Lebanon, Gaza, West Bank, Iraq... Why can't we talk about a Palestinian pop star like nancy ajram... To be born in this region is to be born with a spell... I just want to read the books I bought and never read... obviously i am too sleepy

I think the Palestinian Princess is being too hard on Hezbollah. Whether you like them or not, they did help end the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. The first defeat of the IDF at the hands of an Arab army. Just because it uses terrorist tactics, this does not make it a terrorist organization. It's so much more. It's a social democratic movement that builds hospitals and schools among other things. Israel has not been able to destroy Hamas (in it's own territory). How in the world can it destroy Hizbollah?

The 2 Israeli Arab Children that were bombed and killed in Nazereth it is said that the Missle came from Nazereth Elit which is the Jewish upper Nazereth. The Arabs live in Lower Nazereth at the bottom..Of the Valley. It sounds like the Yehude is trying to Ignite strife among the Israeli Arabs as well they want them out of Israel as well. They will do anything to get rid of any Arab wether they are Christian, Muslim or Druze..This is not a religious war this is an Ethnic war.

from WWI poetry:

I didn't raise my boy to be a soldier
I brought him up to be my pride and joy.
Who dared to put a musket on his shoulder
to kill another mother's darling boy?

I can't believe how many postings you get. You must be amazed. The fact that you call your blog musings of a Palestinian princess reminded me, I once a good 14 years in the past)fell for Palestinian Kuwaiti real princess, and the attraction was mutual but her cousin kept a very good eye on her - he was sent to London to study with her only to watch her - her words) They knew she was a curious and beautiful girl. Because of the watch ence a complicated Jewish Palestinian relationship never crystallized.

However such relationships are not unheared of today albeit people like that prefer to live outside Israel and Palestine for security reasons. Have you heared of stories like that

Years later I dated a Muslim Tunesian feminist and Islamic scholar, but am now married to an African lady for over 10 years!

Funny how things go!

In any case I actually wrote to say I have added you to my blog roll because you seem to have it together. I have to apologise though to have added you under the category real islamic and arab revolutionaries, itfelt appropriate because you like speaking out openly on what you stand for. If you feel you would rather be in a different category there let me know!

This is part of the problem. Israel is too nice to tell them to leave. Israel wants them to stay and be happy, then when something happens they don't know what to do, where it came from, or who their enemy is. If Israel would have the palestinians in Israel move out, say, to Jordan, less Israelis and (Lehavdil) less palestinians would be in harms way.
The setup isn't smart. The solution isn't a happy one. But the alternative, as we all see now, isn't worth it.

I just want to say, with all the grace and dignity I can muster after I was blinded with disappointment by your pathetic excuse for a solidarity post... Grow up. :)

You are a disgrace to every Palestinian who's ever had at least 20% of his/her mind functioning.

You are a superficial brat who knows nothing of life and it's really sad to know that you're not 12 from the looks of your picture.

You are in dire need of some maturity, and possibly have a brain transplant.

I'm not usually a hater, but your post was very gag-worthy.

I mean c'mon "down with hezbAllah but as long as my plastic-surgeried freak of a singer lives it's all good"?

You disgust me and your people.

Thanks. :)

Thanks guys, there is not much more to say. It was just not gonna happen. Such are the things at international universities in my case the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS) in London. One of my German friends fell for a Hindu girl but she was watched over by her brother, again nothing happened there. A Zoroastrian Iranian ended up with the son of famous Israeli writer, and a German female friend dated an Orthodox Jewish man originally from Iran, hidden from others for over two years. However there was an Italian guy who married a Pakistani Muslim woman at the end of it all. There is a lot of that happening there at SOAS, so if you send your son or daughter there, do expect different sometimes opposing people to mix and sometimes marry.

All my love to you!

I don't have a blogger account so I have to post anonymous,
But I read your post and well, it moved me. I would come up give you a big hug and say Thank you.
Why? because of your clarity, no sides taken, you said there is bad shit happening, there are bad groups, but the biggest thing you said, it is PEOPLE who suffer, and mostly people that have nothing to do with the groups or followers that are doing bad shit.

We can discuss whose land is whose, or where a line goes, but when it comes to blowing shit up and people up, we gotta stop this crap.
Sorry for my french,

All sides have valid points, and any solution will NEVER be the one either side wants.

But if sides are going to fight, let's identify who wants to fight, get them in a place away from women children and peopl ewho do NOT want to fight and let the sides blow up, kill, do whatever they want get all that shit out of their system.

When I read about some suicide bomber who gets his ass popped before he can blow up something I go YES!, When I see a bomb go off that was supposed to hit an enemy and it instead hits a family I go "DAMN IT!, I hate that..Why?"

No judgement on any side here, no argument, just a reaffirmation that life is precious and for those of us who want to live we should be respected, those who want to fight, FINE let them, but don't hide behind me, or my family.
And lets let them fight somewhere other than where people live.

Thank you for your blog.
Bless you and Thank you

PH

To the anonymous poster above,

From what I can gather it seems like you side with Israel and Hizbullah. I don't know what other people think but I believe that all Israel wants is to get rid of Hizbullah. Hizbullah knows this and that is why they hide among villages, women and children. That just disgusts me. They talk tough but when it comes to actions they are all pussies!!!! They say how they can take on Israel anytime, well then go ahead just come closer to the border and fight like men!!! Soooooooo frustrating......

Yeah, I'm also distressed by the conflict. My vision is a "borderless" mid-east - much like a European Community - you can travel from country to country without much hassle and a common European currency is used. It would be great if there was something like that here and I thought Lebanon would be the first after Egypt and Jordan to open up their borders to Israelis (many would have gladly vacationed in Beirut)- until this shit happened. I'm still hoping this can happen...
Shame you will miss the Sulha at Latrun (www.Sulha.com) - as you will get here only on August 23rd. That is if you could have arranged or have the organizers arrange entry passes into Israel from Palestine for you.
